The Tigers finally beat Oakland today 3-1 after losing the first 2 games of the series 5-4 and 2-1. Maroth(4-1) got the start and pitched a gem going 8 innings,giving up 5 hits, and allowing only one run. The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Pudge hit a 2 run homer,his 6th of the season. They took 3-0 lead in the third inning when Rondell White hit a triple to drive is Carlos Guillen. Oakland got one run in the 5th inning to make it 3-1 Detroit. Maroth didn't give up any more runs after that and Urbina pitched a perfect 9th inning to pick up the save. This was a big win for Detroit after losing 3/4 games.
Notes-the Tigers are now 16-18 on the season....Pudge's 2 RBIs today give him 28 on the season, most in the A.L....Carlos Guillen went 3/4 on the day....Urbina has 5 saves on the season....Rondell White now has 27 RBIs on the season....The last time a Tigers' pitcher started a season 4-1 was in 1998....  ¶ 2:48 PM
